Stage Description

This stage is a high mountain day that prepares the pilgrim for crossing the Cantabrian Mountains Range. The profile is an ascending, demanding route through an alpine landscape of great beauty. The trail approaches the historic Pajares Pass. The destination is the small village of Arbas del Puerto, famous for its Romanesque collegiate church, an old pilgrims' hospital at over 1,300 meters in altitude. It's a final stage in an absolutely peaceful environment.
The stage between Pola de Gordón and Arbas del Puerto is a high mountain day that leads the pilgrim to the gates of the Pajares Pass. The profile is an ongoing and demanding ascent. The landscape is alpine, of spectacular beauty, with high-altitude meadows and views of the summits. It's a stage for enjoying nature in its purest state and solitude. Arrival at Arbas del Puerto marks the end of the stage. This small village, situated over 1,300 meters above sea level, houses the Colegiata of Santa María de Arbas, a Romanesque jewel that functioned as an inn for pilgrims during the Middle Ages. It's a place of absolute tranquility, perfect for rest before tackling the crossing of the mountain range.
