San Bartolomé de Pinares is a village in the province of Ávila surrounded by an immense and fragrant pine forest. For pilgrims on the South East Way, it's a total immersion in nature. The locality is world-famous for its ancestral "Las Luminarias" festival on St. Anthony's Eve, where horsemen and horses jump over bonfires in a purifying ritual of great spectacle. The village, with serran architecture, offers an atmosphere of absolute tranquility. It's an ideal place for a restorative break, to enjoy hiking, and if lucky, experience one of Spain's most magical traditions.
