Toledo, the "Imperial City", is the spectacular endpoint of the Camino Manchego and an important hub of connection with other Jacobean routes such as the Levante Route. Declared a World Heritage Site, the city is a living museum that overwhelms the pilgrim with its immense legacy of history and art. Known as the "City of the Three Cultures", its labyrinthine streets have coexisted for centuries of Christians, Muslims, and Jews, leaving an indelible mark on its architecture. For the pilgrim, arrival in Toledo is the culmination of a journey and the beginning of a fascinating exploration. The imposing Primada Cathedral, the Alcázar, the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, the synagogues of Santa María la Blanca and the Tránsito, and mosques such as the Christ of the Light are just some of its countless treasures. Additionally, the city is the artistic home of El Greco. With an endless array of culture, gastronomy, and services, Toledo is a major reward for the walker and a place that requires at least a full day's rest to start discovering its treasures.
