Discover Markina-Xemein

Markina-Xemein is a historic Basque village that represents the essence of the interior of the Basque Country. Considered the "University of Basque Pelota", its frontón is a temple of this sport. For the pilgrim following the interior variant of the Camino del Norte, it is a fundamental stop. Its old town preserves a notable heritage, with medieval tower houses, baroque palaces and the singular ensemble of the church of Santa María and the hermitage of San Miguel de Arretxinaga, with its three large rocks. It is a place to immerse oneself in Basque culture, enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and the hospitality of one of the most characterful villages in Bizkaia.
