Padrón

Padrón is a village of great capital importance in the history of the Way of St. James; it is, in fact, the cradle of all Jacobean tradition. According to legend, it was here, in ancient Iria Flavia, where the stone boat that carried the remains of Apostle St. James from Palestine moored after his long journey. The "Pedrón", the stone anchor that gives its name to the village, is preserved under the main altar of Santiago Church and is a must-visit for all pilgrims. This direct connection with the origins makes Padrón the last great symbolic stop before Santiago de Compostela on the Portuguese Way. The village, also the birthplace of renowned writers such as Rosalía de Castro and Camilo José Cela, offers a pleasant walk along the Sar River. In addition to its historical load, it is globally famous for its peppers, whose slogan "uns pican e outros non" is known by all. With good hostels and services, Padrón is the perfect place for the last night of reflection and to savor local cuisine before the exciting final stage towards the Cathedral.
